Principal's Message

Dear Parents/Guardians of Shaw High School,

Greetings to all!  I hope this letter finds you and your family in good health and spirit.  On behalf of the Shaw High School Community, it is a pleasure to welcome you to the 2017-2018 academic school year!  We look forward to what we know will be a fulfilling and exciting year!

As I begin my first school year as Head Principal of Shaw High School, I am energized and deeply committed to making a positive difference in the lives of your children.   We will offer all of our students a unique educational experience.  I hope your child will take full advantage of all these opportunities.   We are looking forward to our gathering together as a staff and as a student body in order to create the pool of wisdom from where we may experience the joy of academic growth, the thrill of scholarly endeavors and the benefits of social development throughout the coming year.

I am sending you this letter to provide some information you will need to be best prepared for opening day.  School officially begins on Thursday, August 17, 2017.  Our hours of instruction are from 8:15 AM until 2:40 PM.  Students are to arrive to school each day no later than 8:00AM.  Breakfast will be served each day beginning at 7:40 AM.  Students who arrive to school after 8:15 AM will be considered tardy to school.  Please keep this in mind for attendance purposes.

All students will be issued Student ID Cards and have Orientation on the following days:

Monday, August 7, 2017 – 9th Grade

Tuesday, August 8, 2017 – 10th Grade

Wednesday, August 9, 2017 – 11th Grade/Shaw Academy

Thursday, August 10, 2017 – 12th Grade

   We are asking all students to please arrive promptly at 6:00 pm in order to participate in the  Orientation Program.  At that time we will review the Mission, Schedules, Dress Code Policy, Student Code of Conduct, and Graduation Requirements.

This is also a reminder that our Superintendent, Dr. Myrna Loy Corley has sent a letter asking all parents to return all registration and medical forms on the first day of school.  All forms are to be returned on or before September 8, 2017.

All individuals who have been designated by you to pick up your child, must be listed on the child’s Emergency Medical Form.  These individuals will be asked to show photo identification.  It is imperative that we have accurate records. Students will not be released without an adult!

At Shaw High School our children’s safety and well being come first!  Parents whenever you enter the building you will need identification.   Parents will be issued a visitors pass at the Safety and Security desk.  At Shaw High School we have an open door policy, however, in order not to disrupt instructional time parents who need to conference with teachers must make an appointment.

Daily attendance is critical in your child’s academic success.  If your child will be absent from school please call (216) 268-6887.  Please provide your name, your child’s name, and the reason for the absence.  Please have your child bring a note when he/she returns to school or you may fax a written excuse to (216) 268-8022.   Every period classroom teachers will take attendance.  It is important that your child attend all of their assigned classes.
