Superintendent's Message

MYRNA LOY CORLEY
SUPERINTENDENT

Dear Parents and Community Members:

It is with extraordinary enthusiasm and excitement that I welcome you to the 2014-2015 school year.

As student academic achievement continues to be our top priority, all efforts have been focused on ensuring that our students are provided with learning environments and opportunities designed to meet and exceed their academic needs.

The school calendar depicts events and activities that have been planned for the upcoming school year. It is my hope that you will find the information contained within to be informative and beneficial. This resource denotes academic, extracurricular, and athletic events that will be available to our stakeholders during the 2014-2015 school year. In the event that activities are rescheduled, cancelled, or added, you will receive this information from your school, or you may access this information via the East Cleveland City School District's website: www.east-cleveland.k12.oh.us.

The East Cleveland City School District continues to diligently and systemically implement programs and initiatives that will assist in providing a rigorous education for our students. Specifically, STEM labs will be installed at all elementary schools and at Heritage Middle School. Technology will be updated at all schools within the District. A new bell schedule will be implemented at Shaw High School affording students the opportunity to enroll in varied and expanded elective courses. Specialized literacy programs designed to foster

excellence in students' ability to read with fluency and comprehension are being enhanced. Formative assessments will continue to provide information, relative to the individual strengths and areas in need of improvement, for our students. Differentiated instruction will continue to provide individualized and tailored instruction for students. An extensive professional development academy for teachers will assist in providing information and assistance relative to implementation of the Common Core, research based best instructional practices, and a myriad of topics with the improvement of student academic achievement as the focus.

The East Cleveland City School District is committed to providing programs and initiatives both academically and psycho-socially, as we strive to meet the needs of the "whole" child. We will continue to implement programs, including but not limited to, providing dental, vision, and wellness services for our students.
