The Shaw High School Alumni Association is dedicated to contributing to the further development of the academic, cultural, physical, social, and athletic attributes of past and future alumni of Shaw High School.
The current Association was established in 2005 by Gabrielle Ross (79), Grennetta Taylor (77), Kathy Grant (77), Belinda Kyle (77), Renee Kendall (77) We were later joined by the Shaw High Athletic Alumni: Bruce Coffey (73), Quintero Mack (81), Greg Bell (86), Robert Seats (73), Michael Tucker. Together we hosted the first weekend of events, commemorating the demolition of the old Shaw High School building. Our ultimate goal is to have a sustainable association that is institutionalized within Shaw High School.
Our fundraising goals are lofty. Currently, the primary fundraising event is the Meet and Greet that occurs annually on Labor Day Weekend. Through our fundraising efforts we are able to provide our annual scholarship. In previous years, we have been hosts to a youth summit. In the past, we have also provided financial assistance to student groups: Marching Band, Football Team, State Test study group, Thanksgiving basket donations and other donations as requested and approved. We ask that requests, other than scholarships, be provided in writing. Describe the purpose, group, and benefit of the requested assistance.
We understood the need for a Cardinal to support a Cardinal. From this need, we created our annual scholarship. Each year, we provide scholarships ranging from $500-$2000 to graduating Shaw High School seniors. The scholarships are awarded to them at our Labor Day Weekend All Class Reunion picnic. Seniors interested in applying for the Scholarship should pick up an application in the main office or visit their academic advisor the January of their expected year of graduation.
Whether you are a Cardinal, a former or current educator, administrator or just an advocate of Shaw High School, you are eligible for membership. However, only Shaw High School graduates in good standing (current on dues) have voting rights. Complete the application and return it to the mailing address below or via email to the current secretary. Complete applications must be accompanied by the appropriate membership fee. Meetings are held monthly, 2nd Saturday at 12pm. Meeting locations are provided via email prior to the meeting date.
