The East Cleveland City School District is pleased to announce the appointment of Reggie Smith as the new head football coach at Shaw High School.
Reggie Smith brings eleven years of varsity coaching experience to the Cardinal football team, serving as assistant head coach and defensive line coach for the team since 2019. Smith, a proud graduate of Shaw High School and a former captain during his senior year in 2003, knows how much of an impact the team can have on the school and the community.
“We want to increase our participation in the program and emphasize that these young men are students first and then athletes. Remember, the degree will last longer than your career in the NFL.”
Coach Reg, as he is known to his players, was a red-shirt at The Ohio State University and also played at Walsh University during his collegiate time. Smith talked about the importance of finishing strong and representing the community. “If I had to describe how I’m feeling right now in one word, I’d say blessed. With the chance to play on this new field at our new stadium and then see these young men graduate and walk the stage, my heart is full right now.”
The Shaw Cardinals are slated to play a portion of their upcoming season in a new stadium facility, made possible by donations from the Cleveland Browns.
