Important Updates

Dear Parents:

It is our pleasure to welcome back all of Mayfair’s students and families from Spring Break. We are hopeful that everyone is

Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year! Our commitment at Mayfair Elementary School is to provide a safe and intellectually challenging environment that will empower students to become innovative thinkers, creative problem solvers, and inspire learners to thrive in the twenty-first century.

Your children are going to be greeted by an exceptionally strong and professional staff comprised of seasoned educators and those new to the profession.  They all share the same demanding work ethic and commitment to serve all students in an environment that is supportive of students’ social and emotional needs as well as their academic needs.

This school year, we are working on self-regulating and mindfulness skills. We understand that students experience stress from taking the state test, learning new skills, social media, and maintaining relationships for their peers. Therefore, we will practice taking a mindful moment each morning and after lunch.  Mindfulness is the ability to be fully present, aware of where we are and what we are doing, and not overreact or be overwhelmed by outside forces.  Mindfulness helps students to regulate emotions, stress, anxiety, and depression. Students will use mindfulness to focus in class, self-regulate their emotions, show self-awareness of their feelings and actions, and display self-compassion to build their self-image.  I encourage you to start the school day with your child so that you can experience mindfulness first hand. In addition, your child’s teacher will inform you of monthly mindful activities via the monthly newsletter.

Active participation in your student’s education is imperative!  This will help eliminate the possibility of your child/s developing gaps in their education and assist in student achievement.  Please, take the time to become familiar with the East Cleveland City School District Handbook.  This handbook addresses many issues that may arise during the school year.  It is our objective to be proactive in assisting students in being successful in school.

I am anxiously excited for the first day of school, Thursday, August 22nd, when I can personally welcome your family to one of the best school years of many that your child will experience at Mayfair Elementary School. We are going to learn, thrive, reduce stress, and have a blast doing it!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Sabrina Ingram
