Two East Cleveland Educators Recognized for Supporting the Arts
On Friday, November 5, two East Cleveland educators were honored at the Ohio Art Education Association's State Professional Development Conference in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Each year the Ohio Art Education Association calls for nominations of educators, citizens, and businesses/organizations who are not art educators or work in the field of art education, but still contribute to, and support art students and art educators with their powerful and engaging work. This year, Trina Parrish, the Visual Art Educator at Shaw High School was recognized for being the 2020 Northeast Ohio Outstanding Art Teacher.
Additionally, Larry Ellis, Head Principal at Shaw High School, received the 2020 Distinguished Educator for Art Education. Susan Ruttle-Lawrence, OAEA awards chairperson said of Mr. Ellis, “Art Education in the state of Ohio could not flourish without someone like Larry Ellis who is a shining example of an administrator who truly supports the efforts of art teachers and students, while reinforcing to others the intrinsic value of a meaningful art education. He nurtures a learning environment in which everyone feels seen, heard, and valued for their unique contributions.”
