Shaw Senior Named LEL Football Defensive Player of the Year
The Shaw High School varsity football team closed out its season on October 22 against Lorain. But the season isn’t over for senior Da’Vyon Johnson who was named Lake Erie League Defensive Player of the Year.
Johnson, a middle linebacker, averaged 8.5 tackles per game. Of his 77 total tackles on the season, 10 were tackles for a loss. Johnson also spent plenty of time in the backfield this season, causing havoc for opposing quarterbacks. He earned 4 sacks to go along with 5 hurries and 3 passes broken up. As a two-way player, Johnson also lined up at running back where he averaged 3.8 yards per carry.
A four year member of the varsity football team, Johnson also plays basketball in the winter. After high school, Johnson plans to attend college and continue his work on the football field.
