Shaw High School Announces the Installation of First All-Male PTSA

On Wednesday, April 27, 2022, the East Cleveland City School District and Shaw High School finalized its first Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA) charter in over four decades.  Formalizing this kind of support from families and community members is one of the goals of East Cleveland’s Revitalization Plan.

This also marks the first time in school history that an all-male slate of officers have be installed to head the PTSA.  Research from the National PTA indicates that increases in the number of active fathers and father figures in a child’s life promotes greater physical and emotional well-being.

To emphasize the important role that fathers can play in the development and operation of a PTSA, Ian Moffett was the keynote speaker.  Mr. Moffett is a PTSA advocate and retired Chief of School Police and District Security for Miami-Dade Public Schools.

Also in attendance for this event was East Cleveland Mayor Brandon King"It is important that we stay active in young men's lives and we help to guide them."
