East Cleveland, Ohio – February 14, 2023 – Henry Pettiegrew, Ph.D., Superintendent at East Cleveland City Schools, is among 25 superintendents to successfully complete the AASA National Superintendent Certification Program®, administered by AASA, The School Superintendents Association. 

 

Dr. Pettiegrew was acknowledged in a graduation event on February 13, 2023, in San Antonio, Texas, on the eve of AASA’s National Conference on Education, where thousands of superintendents and other district leaders convened to discuss the most critical issues in today’s public education landscape. 

 

“Future-driven and equity-driven superintendents need to consider AASA’s National Superintendent Certification Program®, which is among the best professional learning opportunities I’ve ever had as an educator,” said Pettiegrew. “At the time when school districts are working diligently to address issues such as equity and health and wellness for the students they serve, this program focuses on a number of key skills that successful superintendents need to thrive.”

 

The certification process is spread across 20 months and is tailored for superintendents who have been in the job seven years or fewer or those seeking to refresh their skill set. The forums, seminars and coaching provide opportunities to define and examine issues that surface in real-life situations. These issues include:

 

• Providing world-class instructional leadership;

• Building and managing a district budget;

• Mastering effective communication and political skills;

• Using 21^st century technology effectively in instruction and management;

• Managing superintendent/school board relations; and

• Designing a career path for oneself.

 

 

The AASA National Superintendent Certification Program® is a collaborative effort with AASA,  its state affiliates, and business and corporate leaders. The master teachers and guest instructors have all been sitting superintendents and have demonstrable track records of success.
